Set for season

Things are shaping up at the pier and everyone is looking forward to the coming season. Visitors will notice many improvements to the parking lot, bath house, pier house and of course, the pier.

There’s new, native landscaping, larger, stabilized dunes and a handicap-accessible ramp to the beach. Just about every plank is in place and the pier crew has mounted bait- cutting boards on most of the bench tops.

Special Events

Our Second Annual Family Fishing Tournament will be held Saturday, June 9 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lots of hungry fish, trophies for the winners and other give a ways promise to make this the best tourney ever.

And there’s much, much more on tap for this summer. There are four more fishing tournaments scheduled at the pier and 10 surfing contests are hitting the beaches near the pier.

Summer Camps

The education staff has planned numerous learning adventures this summer for children and adults. In addition, the pier will offer summer camps from mid-June to mid-August. These week-long camps range from fishing to biology to exploring the ocean.

Perhaps the coolest camp will be the Waterman’s Ocean Adventure Camp. Children age 8 and up will learn to fish, surf, kayak and more. They need to bring all the essentials for fun: swim suit, sunscreen, towel, water bottle, water shoes, hat, bug spray and lunch.

Spring Hours

The pier’s hours of operation have shifted back to be 6 a.m. to midnight until the end of May. The gift, tackle and snack shop is now open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.

The beaches, parking lot and bath house are all open for day use. Fishing licenses can be purchased at the pier house counter. A license is not needed, however, for pier fishing as there is a blanket license for all anglers.
